Configuring Your Nobi Assistant

Nobi adapts its behavior to your business. By configuring your business identity and objectives, you tell Nobi who you are and what you want to achieve and the AI assistant adjusts its language, tone, and conversational strategy automatically.

Business Context

Your industry and brand voice settings are configured under Assistant > Behavior.

Industry

Set your industry (e.g., "Automotive Dealership", "Fashion Retail", "Real Estate", "SaaS") and Nobi will automatically adapt its language and terminology. An auto dealer's assistant will naturally talk about vehicles, test drives, and financing, while a fashion retailer's assistant talks about styles, fits, and outfits all without any manual prompt configuration.
The industry field accepts any value, type whatever best describes your business.

Brand Voice

Brand voice controls your AI assistant's communication style. Describe how you want it to sound in plain English. For example:
  • "Professional and knowledgeable, like a trusted advisor"
  • "Casual and friendly, like talking to a neighbor"
  • "Luxurious and refined, matching our premium brand positioning"
Brand voice is optional, if left blank, the assistant defaults to a friendly, professional tone.

Sales Playbook

The sales playbook section contains your sales playbook: a set of instructions that guides how your AI assistant handles every conversation. It controls the assistant's approach to qualifying visitors, presenting results, and steering conversations toward your business goals.

What the playbook controls

  • How to qualify visitors - What questions to ask before showing results (budget, preferences, timeline)
  • When to search - Whether to search immediately or gather context first
  • How to present results - How many results to show, what details to highlight
  • Conversion actions - When to suggest next steps like scheduling a demo, requesting a quote, or completing a purchase
  • Guardrails - What topics to avoid, what claims not to make

Editing your playbook

You can view and edit your playbook on the Assistant > Behavior page in the Sales Playbook section. The playbook is a free-form text field where you write instructions in plain language. The AI follows these instructions in every conversation.

Industry defaults

When you select an industry, Nobi provides a default playbook tailored to that vertical. This default is copied to your account as a starting point. You can then customize it however you like. If you change industries, Nobi will ask whether you want to reset your playbook to the new industry's defaults or keep your current customizations. You can always click "Reset to industry defaults" to restore the original playbook.

Tips for writing a good playbook

  • Be specific: "Ask about budget before showing vehicles" is better than "qualify the visitor"
  • Include examples of good conversation flows when possible
  • Set clear boundaries: specify what the AI should and should not discuss
  • Test changes by chatting with your assistant after saving

Fact-Check Responses

Nobi can add an extra layer of review to its responses before sending them to your visitors. When fact-checking is enabled, every response goes through an additional step that aims to identify factual claims and check them against the information in your knowledge base.
To enable this feature, go to Assistant > Behavior and toggle on Enable extra fact-checking under the Extra Fact Checking section.
When enabled, Nobi reviews every response for factual claims like dates, numbers, names, pricing, requirements, and other specifics, and attempts to confirm that each claim is supported by information in your knowledge base. If potentially unsupported claims are detected, Nobi attempts to regenerate a more grounded response using your actual data.
This can help reduce the chance of inaccurate information reaching your visitors, which is especially useful for businesses where precision matters, such as pricing, eligibility requirements, or product specifications. While not a guarantee of accuracy, it adds a meaningful extra check to every response.
Note: Fact-checking may slightly increase response time, since the additional review step runs before each response is sent. This feature is disabled by default, enable it if response accuracy is a priority for your business.

How It All Works Together

When a visitor interacts with your AI assistant, Nobi combines your business identity (industry + brand voice), your business objectives, and your sales playbook into a tailored system prompt. This means the AI adapts its language, qualification approach, and conversion strategy to match your specific business.
This means:
  • An auto dealership with a sales playbook focused on qualifying buyers will ask about budget and timeline before showing inventory
  • A fashion retailer with a friendly brand voice will suggest outfits and help visitors find items matching their style
  • A service provider with lead capture enabled will naturally collect contact information from interested visitors

Onboarding

If you signed up through our onboarding wizard, you may have already configured some of these settings during setup. You can always change these later under Assistant > Behavior.
If you skipped these steps during onboarding, we recommend configuring your industry, brand voice, and sales playbook now to get the best results from your AI assistant.
